yes you should get lessons, if it’s available take advantage of it. Even though teaching youself is good someone who knows exactly what theyre doing can teach you a lot more and if you have any questions they can answer them right on the spot.

I’ll be honest. I started playing drums at 16. I young, eager and wanted to fast drum solos, etc. I started teahciung myself by following along drums on tapes ( this was 1986 by the way)
so, I kpet on improving little by little…
i did’nt actually take my very drum lesson until 1999….whcih was 13 years later. By that time. I was already playing Megadeth, Accept, Krokus & Rush drums stuff.
My point is….you can do it either way.
If you really feel you need drum lessons. Go for it! They are around $60 an hour for real!! If you want to learn on your own. Go to your local library like I’ve done too and check out frered drum books there too. Also, buy some drum book at your local music store too. They are great help too. Also, buy a Metronome too like a QUIKTIME one to help you with your timing. They are the best $20 you’ll ever spend as a drummer. This is do recommend 100% to you as a fellow new drummer. Drumming is all about timing, keep your timing tight & solid is very key to your great success.
It doesnt matter what you do solowise, fills, rudiments or etc. If you can’t keep your timing tight….you need to work on your timing more till you got it down right on the bulls eye!!
Good luck
