wait and see as he is a little to young to probably fully understand drums…at this stage in life he uses them as stimulation and noise preference.

You should totally let your child start lessons as early as possible, that way, by the time he is a teenager, he’ll be PRO!

The world always needs a rock’n'roll drummer.
At that age, his mind is like a sponge.
If you and his mother can handle the pure volume of a 4 year old playing drums…
I can’t reasonably tell you no, as long as the kid’s into it. I mean, you can get a kit his size fairly cheap. My only concern (bear in mind I have no children) is the attention span usually attributed to a four year old is short. Then again, what do I know? I’ve met some unsettlingly smart children.

I’d say get a little child’s drumkit for him, and see if he plays it. You might not be able to get him into like a music school at his age just yet, but keep supporting him. If you get him a little drumkit it could hold his interest in drums. Then when he’s a little older, maybe look into proper drum lessons and investing in a full proper drumkit.

I am not musically inclined the only thing I can play is the radio, but most of my friends are musicians I was at a party once and they were having a jam session the drummer noticed my son copy catting his motions and asked if he would like to play. I was in shock. the drummer came up to me after would s and remarked that my son was a natural musician and to get him a instrument he was exactly four at the time. so I bought him a set of drums. he is now a senior in high school and plays four instruments very well and also is active in school plays, and has written two. I am not a musician but my dad started me early in sports and there is not a sport I cant do from base ball to skiing. thanx to my dads insight and wisdom that early is better a tip tho real drums are not like wii you cant really adjust the volume so you might want to start with an electronic set where you can tone down the volume because of my dad i learned that whatever a child starts to gravitate to that should be the direction you send him not the other way around

It may be just a little too young, but it depends on the child. If you think that the child is very responsible, and listens to directions, then it’s the right time. Although, for most kids, I would wait until an age just a little bit higher, for better understanding. It will be a lot of stress on you, the child, and the teacher. If you start the child too early, it might be a waste of time. If the child really does want to play the drums, drum lessons are a little easier to start them a little younger. If they are eager to try, it will be better on everyone. If the child isn’t really caring that much, and is a little bad with listening to directions, I’d suggest waiting a little longer.

My mom had me take piano lessons at four and I never learned the notes, I just memorized the keys. I had to start over later in life and it was a waste of money, basically. I guess it depends on the patience and quality of the teacher and if he really wants to learn. Ask him if he wants to learn and take his opinion into consideration.
